More Winter Fun in the Snow
Ok, so you’ve already tackled the downhill ski slopes, cross county Nordic skiing trails, alpine tubing park, and terrain parks, but you’re still looking for more adventure. Try any of these family-friendly winter activities and snowsports.
If Nordic skiing isn’t your thing, you can still explore the beauty of Shanty Creek’s winter wonderland. Grab a pair of snowshoes and discover the 4,500 acres of Shanty Creek Resorts.
Visit the Nordic Center at Cedar River for snowshoe rentals and take off on the new multi-purpose Nordic trail at Cedar River. It will take you on a beautiful hike through our award-winning Cedar River Golf Course where many say it’s even more beautiful during the snow-covered months of winter.
Operated by Pets That Pull, Mike King’s beautiful Siberian Huskies add smiles and atmosphere to Schuss Village on Saturdays and holidays. Kids will grin with delight as Mike leads the dogs through the exhilarating, looped trail ride.
Rides are $15 each and run from 4-6p. Contact the Schuss Mtn. Front Desk to make your reservations at 866.695.5010, x 3690. Note: Dogsled rides are limited to children under 100lbs.
AKA Fat Tire Biking, Snow Biking. The biggest thing to shake up the biking industry in ages has been the proliferation of Fat Bikes. Equipped with rugged, low PSI, knobby fat tires, fat biking gives riders more terrain to tackle including snow and soft sandy beaches.
Here in northern Michigan, that means year-round biking. And here at Shanty Creek Resorts we’re lucky to have Patrick Boyd’s Paddles & Pedals, which provides Fat Bike rentals on weekends and holidays during ski season. Available from the lower level of The Lodge at Cedar River with out-the-door access onto SCR’s groomed multipurpose 5k trail (also designed for snowshoe hikes and dog walking).
